Five Point Capital All-Stars Team Up for the Race for the Cure®
SAN DIEGO 8 October 2006 San Diego-based equipment leasing firm, Five Point Capital had over 50 company members participate in the San Diego Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation 10th Anniversary of the annual Race for the Cure® on Sunday, November 5, 2006. This year’s co-ed 5K (3.1 miles) run and one mile walk in Balboa Park brought together 14,000 participants. In addition to serving as a Silver sponsor for the day’s event, FPC’s efforts began weeks ahead as human resources coordinated employee registrations to be on the “Five Point Capital All-Stars” team. Employees were informed about the Komen Foundation and the cause. They were given the opportunity to participate in San Diego County’s largest race supporting local breast cancer education and awareness. With a banner, team t-shirts and a booth for giving out free coffee, snacks and water bottles, Five Point Capital All-Stars stepped up to help the foundation and the Race for the Cure®. “It was exhilarating to see our company team members come out on a Sunday to support breast cancer education, screening and treatment in the San Diego community. Both the camaraderie and competition fueled the fun in the event,” said runner and president, Dan Feder. “We realize our employees are our lifeblood at FPC, and any way we can help educate them about health-related issues or encourage them to contribute, it’s a win-win,” added participant and CEO, Dave Gilbert. The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation was founded on a promise made between two sisters – Susan Goodman Komen and Nancy Goodman Brinker. Suzy was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1978, a time when little was know about the disease and it was rarely discussed in public. Before she died at the age of 36, Suzy asked her sister to do everything possible to bring an end to breast cancer. Nancy kept her promise by establishing the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation in 1982.
